Desire: Panel Discussion

Moderated by Megan Piontkowski

The curators of "Desire on the Edge" will host a panel discussion with Katrin Higher, Jessica Macado, Tinuade Oyelowo, and Hong-An Truong. Megan Piontkowski will moderate.

This panel is designed to open up a dialogue about sexuality beyond how it is currently presented in mainstream culture. Speakers will touch on a variety of issues around sexuality, including the ways in which the black female body functions as a queer body due to its lack of representations within the systems of structural desires, the way sex can be used to gain power over other people, and the way historic colonial violence affects the experience of desire on a personal level. The panelists will reflect on the practical implications of these topics, specifically how they would like to level the playing field between romantic partners.

We hope that the audience will leave our events with a better understanding of the invisible forces affecting them and how to express themselves in spite of those forces.
