5 Session Altered Book Project


5 Session Altered Book Project meets September 10, September 17, September 24, October 1 and October 8 from 6:30 - 9:30 pm. 

This course is an introduction  to various techniques of book alteration that will amount to a the creation of an altered book art project. We will be exploring different drawing, painting, collage, mixed media, and printing techniques. Focusing on a different set of tools and media each week, we will address the formal and conceptual potential of a book art project. Students are welcome to come to the course with an objective project in mind, or are welcome to just explore the different creative practices each week. 

Materials to bring:
Used books and art materials will be provided. Students are welcome to bring their own book or additional supplies if desired.

Instructor Bio:
Katerina Lanfranco is a New York City-based artist making paintings, drawings, sculptures, and mixed media installations. Lanfranco holds a BA from University of California at Santa Cruz and an MFA from Hunter College, City University of New York. Her work is represented by the Nancy Hoffman Gallery in NYC, and is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings) in Berlin, Germany, and the Corning Museum of Glass. Lanfranco’s artworkreferences cultural modes of representing nature to engage in adialogue between nature and culture, through the medium of visual art. Lanfranco currently teaches studio art at the Museum of Modern Art, LIM College, and at Fordham University.
