5 Session Abstract Painting
5 Session Abstract Painting meets October 15, October 22, October 29, November 5 and November 12 from 6:30 - 9:30 pm.
In this five-class workshop (a total of 15 hours), students will create a series of eight paintings/drawings from classwork and homework assignments. Novice and experienced painters are welcome. This class will help students delve into personal symbolism to find an authentic voice in their work. For inspiration we will look at a mixture of art history and contemporary art. Class exercises will address line, shape, format, texture, composition, and color theory. Students are expected to complete all homework assignments and attend one exhibition.
Materials to bring:
For the first class bring one pre-streched canvas or canvas board that is no larger than 24" x 24" and one sheet of paper 22" x 30", palette paper, 8oz jar of gesso, titanium white, black, red, blue, green, yellow, purple, orange and brown. For additional classes you will also need to purchase artist tape, additional painting surfaces, a sketch book, pencil and gloss and matte acrylic mediums.
